Milne Field First Quarter Mitchell Parker raced out of the gates and gave the Dolphins a quick strike on his goal 51 seconds into the game. Will Hendrick. The Panthers returned the score on a Nick Basile shot at 12:47. Applegate passed from behind the goal to Chase McIntyre at 8:13, and McIntyre scored on a no-look, behind-the-back shot. Michael LeClair scored his first of five High Point goals with six minutes remaining in the quarter, but Jacksonville closed the period with momentum on goals from Applegate (4:22) and Dwayne Mattushik (0:09 from Applegate). Second Quarter The SoCon squads traded goals in the second quarter, with High Point netting first at 14:06 thanks to Basile. Mattushik later scored again at 7:49 from a McLean Chicquen helper. Just over a minute later, LeClair struck again on a solo shot, but Hendrick nixed the score at 6:22 with an Applegate assist. LeClair ended the first-half scoring by completing a hat trick at 3:55, and JU led at the break, 6-5. Third Quarter With his second goal, Applegate tallied his fifth point with an assist from Shawn Ewert within 90 seconds of resuming play. Mitchel Snyder of High Point hit between the pipes at 12:04, but Jacksonville came back with a Brett Reilly-to-Mitchell Parker connection at 9:12 for an 8-6 edge. The teams traded blows before the Panthers tied the score on successive goals from Chris Young and LeClair at 1:50 and 1:34, respectively. Fourth Quarter High Point outscored Jacksonville 5-1 in the final frame with the lone Dolphin goal coming from Chicquen at 9:05. Snyder buzzed net twice, and LeClair, Connor Robinson, and Sean Harrison did the damage for the visitors. Quote “Definitely the most disappointing loss of the season. We have certainly been playing our best lacrosse up until today. Unfortunately, we shot ourselves in the foot. Two things that we focused on at the end of the game were fundamentals and fitness, and I thought we lacked in those two departments today that allowed High Point to creep back into the game and pull away in the fourth quarter. We are going to go back to the drawing board with a huge game coming up against Bellarmine. We still have an opportunity to make the SoCon tournament and our eyes will be set on that come Monday afternoon.” – Head Coach John Galloway Scoops Jacksonville was successful in 13 of 15 clear attempts, and won 15 of 26 faceoffs. Jacksonville also won the ground ball battle, 34-31, and outshot High Point by the same margin. Ben Gleichenhaus had 11 saves in the loss. Applegate has collected four or more points in four of the last five games, and scooped five ground balls in the game. Hunter Forbes won 13 faceoffs, and led the squad with nine ground balls. Jacksonville closes the regular season at Bellarmine on Apr. 29, and remains in contention for the playoff spots.
