JU Men’s Lacrosse Defeats #14 Denver 11-9 on Saturday!
Denver, Colo. – The Jacksonville Men’s Lacrosse program traveled out west and defeated the 14th ranked Denver Pioneers, 11-9, Saturday afternoon at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium.
Jacob Greiner’s six goal effort fueled the ‘Phins offensively. Jeremy Winston multi-goal showing, as well Tucker Garrity, Jackson Intrieri and Max Waldbaum’s solo-goal performances rounded out the scoring for Jacksonville. Luke Millican earned the victory between the pipes, stopping 11 shots in the contest.
Jack Hannah and Ted Sullivan led Denver with four and three goals, respectively. Jack Thompson stopped 18 shots in the defeat for the Pioneers.
Jacksonville jumped out to a 4-2 lead at the end of the first quarter. Greiner, Winston, Waldbaum and Garrity would each find the back of the net once in the quarter.
Winston’s second goal of the day kick started the second quarter for the Dolphins. Denver would score back-to-back goals to end the half, as Jacksonville maintained a one-goal advantage heading into the break, 5-4.
Greiner came alive for the Dolphins following the break, scoring all four of the Jacksonville goals in the third quarter, as the Dolphins would stretch their lead to two entering the fourth quarter, 9-7.
Back-to-back JU goals began the fourth quarter, as Jacksonville extended their lead to four, 11-7. Denver responded to two-straight goals of their own, to trim the Dolphin lead. However, the late Pioneer surge would not be enough, as the Dolphins would continue their early season success.

“Today was a heavyweight battle between two talented teams. I have had the fortune of growing up watching Coach Tierney, and his program is one we strive to be as we build our culture. I am happy for our guys, but also aware that we can’t dwell on today. Air Force is an incredibly athletic team that is always tough to play at home. Our ability to re-focus and re-charge will be the next test this team has to face. I’m excited for them to answer that challenge.”
“Today we had special efforts from Jack Dolan, Jacob Greiner, Luke Millican, and Tucker Garrity. But to be successful tomorrow, we will only need everyone. I’m looking forward to getting back in the team room with them tonight to address today’s deficiencies and get ready for the championship fight tomorrow.”
Game Notes
– Jacksonville leads the all-time series with Denver, 2-1. The previous Dolphin victory in the matchup was on Feb. 21, 2010, the first win in program history.
– Greiner’s six goals established a new career-high for the redshirt-sophomore.
– Millican’s 11 save performance was his fourth double-digit save showing of the campaign.
– The Dolphins now have multiple ranked victories on the season for the first time in program history.
– The four-game winning streak is tied for the longest in program history.
