JU Women: Women’s Lacrosse Preps for ASUN Championship Semifinal Match with Coastal Carolina

JACKSONVILLE, FLA – Jacksonville Women’s Lacrosse kicks off their postseason on Thursday afternoon when they battle it out with Coastal Carolina in the semi-final round of this year’s ASUN Championship Tournament.

The Dolphins enter the tournament as the one-seed sporting an overall record of 11-4 and a conference record of 5-0. Over the season, Jacksonville has claimed notable wins over (RV) Virginia Tech, Cornell, and Harvard while also facing off against highly ranked opponents in #16 USC, #1 North Carolina, #15 Notre Dame, and #9 Florida. Through 15 games they have accrued a goal differential of +140 and are currently the fourth ranked scoring offense and defense in the country.

In their last match out against Florida the ‘Phins dropped a hard-fought battle by a score of 12-6. In the game, the score was kept close by Goalkeeper Paige Pagano who recorded a career-high 17 saves on 29 shots on goal.

WHO

Coastal Carolina enters the ASUN Championship Tournament as the four-seed with an overall record of 6-10 and a conference record of 2-3.

In the two teams’ regular season matchup on Friday, April 1, Jacksonville took down CCU in Conway, SC by a score of 18-5. Since that match, the Chanticleers have gone 2-4 with notable losses to both (RV) Virginia Tech and #22 Johns Hopkins.

JU and CCU have face each other twice in the ASUN Championship Tourney, once in 2017 and another time in 2018, with both meetings ending in Dolphin victories.

WHERE AND WHEN

The ASUN Championship Tournament is being held in Jacksonville this year and the game is scheduled for a 1 pm opening draw from Rock Stadium on Thursday, May 5.

Passes for the entire ASUN Championship Tournament weekend will be available for $20 as will single game tickets for $10 each. Admission to the tournament will be FREE for ASUN students with school ID. Children under two years of age will also be admitted free.
