JU: Women’s Lacrosse Closes Out a Weekend at Rock Stadium

Jacksonville, Fla. – The Jacksonville Women’s Lacrosse team faced off against Rutgers on their home field Sunday.  The Dolphins fell to the  Scarlett Knights with a final score of 9 –7.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Jacksonville came out strong in the first quarter; Sarah Elms scored the first goal of the game at 5:29.  Madeline Cloyd followed soon after with a goal at 3:04. JU shut Rutgers out in the first quarter with a score of 2-0 Dolphins. Rutgers responded in the 2nd quarter when they scored two goals. Cloyd found the back of the net again to hold the in the first half of the game tied at 3-3.

The Dolphins came out  ready to fight in the 3rd when Elms scored two goals to earn her a hat trick. Mackenzie Boyle, with 15 seconds left in the quarter and a man up, found the net for JU, and at the end of the 3rd, the score showed 6-5 Jacksonville.

Boyle continued, scoring the first goal of the 4th quarter at 12:28, adding another goal for the Dolphins to make it 7-5. Rutgers fired back with four goals allowing them to gain a lead over JU. In the end, Rutgers did enough to pull through and end the game with a 9-7 score Rutgers.

“The team showed up to compete today. a few more possessions in our favor could have changed the outcome. we are right there and we are looking forward to this week of practice.” said Head Coach Tara Singleton. “The experiences we have had this weekend will help as we prepare to face a tough opponent in Army.  I am hopeful this squad looks harder at the positives, leans into the process and stays away from focusing on just the outcomes of our first two games. Our schedule is tough — but so are we!”
