JU Women’s Lacrosse Earns First ASun Conference Win

Dover, Del. – Jacksonville Women’s Lacrosse dominated Delaware State 20-3 in its first ASUN conference match-up on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED 

Jacksonville won convincingly during the first half of play against Delaware State when they went on a 13-2 run. Jacksonville had three multi-goal efforts from Brianna SamuelsAinsley Scruggs, and Sarah Elms; all had two goals each. The Dolphins scored five goals in five minutes; Ainsley Scruggs earned back-to-back goals and an assist from Molly BrockGrace Hobson, and Hudson Gentile (assisted by Hobson) scored in two separate man-up plays. Abby Morgan had her first goal to kick off the second quarter. Delaware scored off a free position and Jacksonville went on to score the next five goals; Lauren CraftSarah Elms, and Maddy Orefice earned free position goals to show the score at half time 13-2 Jacksonville. 

In the final half of play, the Dolphins scored seven goals. Madeline Cloyd recorded the first goal of the half off a free position shot. In a turnover by the Hornets, Lauren Craft picked up the ground ball and made a successful play to Ainsley Scruggs, who hit net, which also earned Craft the assist. Delaware scored their third and final goal at 12:50 to show the score 16-3. Zoe Macrae, Janelle Bennardo, and Samantha Ednie scored for the Dolphins, the final score 20-3 Jacksonville.
