Keiser: Myers Scores Five as #1 Women’s Lacrosse Cruises to Win over Saint Ambrose, 18-6

On the same day she was named the IWLCA Player of the Week, Talia Myers continued her streak of impressive performances with five more goals to lead No. 1 Keiser women’s lacrosse over Saint Ambrose, 18-6.


First Quarter
Keiser 3, Saint Ambrose 1

  • Saint Ambrose was first on the board with just over 30 seconds gone to put the Fighting Bees out in front early.
  • Talia Myers countered less than a minute later to tie the game with an unassisted goal.
  • With 5:27 left in the first Myers used a screen from her teammate to break through the defense and score her second of the game to put KU up 2-1.
  • After scooping up a loose ball, MacKenzie Gibaud went over the top of the defense to give Keiser a 3-1 lead with 1:43 on the clock.
  • The Fighting Bees would get a free position attempt with less than 10 seconds left in the first, but Raelyn Boutwell would step up to make the save in her first career start.

Second Quarter
Keiser 8, Saint Ambrose 2

  • Saint Ambrose struck first in the second quarter on a free position goal to cut the Keiser lead down to one with 13:47 left.
  • Myers worked her way in front of net, using multiple shot fakes before beating the keeper low and putting Keiser ahead 4-2 with 12:20 showing.
  • Following a caused turnover by Hayley FrewAbbey Cannon was off and running working a give-and-go with Sydney Passaro before Cannon found herself open in front of the net and beat the keeper.
  • Back-to-back free position goals by Myers and Samantha Esher had the Seahawks out in front 7-2 with 6:56 on the clock.
  • The final goal of the half was scored by Milena Isturiz with an assist to her roommate Esher to give Keiser an 8-2 lead at the half.
Third Quarter

Keiser 14, Saint Ambrose 3

  • Chloe Foley scored first to open the scoring in the second half to extend the run of scoring to six in a row.
  • Following a free position goal by Cannon, Foley tallied her second of the day three minutes after her first to put Keiser ahead 11-2 with 10:36 left in the third.
  • Frew scored her first of the day on a weak-hand pass from Emily McCall to continue the Seahawks’ run.
  • After assisting Gibaud’s second goal, Carly Chretien fired in a goal of her own for her third of the year.
  • Saint Ambrose would finish the third quarter with a free-position goal to make it 14-3 going into the fourth.
Fourth Quarter

Keiser 18, Saint Ambrose 6

  • The Fighting Bees began to use some of that momentum with three consecutive goals that cut the lead to 14-6 with just over 10 minutes still to play.
  • Esher stopped the run of Saint Ambrose with a bouncing shot that beat the keeper with 8:40 to play.
  • Myers followed by proving to be too much for the defense with her goal fifth of the game to push the lead back up to 16-6.
  • Cannon and Esher wrapped up the game with the final two goals to give Keiser their ninth win of the year.

KU Highlights

  • 20/21: The Seahawks were a near-perfect 20-of-21 in clearance attempts.
  • 15: Keiser won the draw control battle in the game 15-11.
  • 7/5: In her first career start, Boutwell stopped seven shots and collected a team-best five groundballs.
  • 5: T. Myers and Esher each led the team with five points, Myers also leading with five goals.
  • 5: T. Myers also led the team with five draw controls in the contest.
  • 3/3: If one Myers wasn’t enough, Makena Myers was a threat on the defensive side with a team-high three caused turnovers and three groundballs.
  • 3/3: For the first time this season, the Seahawks converted each of their free-position attempts.
  • 2: Both Esher and Passaro tallied two assists on the afternoon.
