Boca Raton, Florida – In an extremely close game, incredible goalie play from both sides kept it close. Dueling hat-tricks and physical gameplay made for an exciting game till the end on a beautiful Monday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • After Westminster struck first in the opening minute, Joseph Michalski evened up the game for the Fighting Knights with 12:02 to play in the first.
  • After the Griffens went up 5-1, Jalen Stanton made it 5-2 with an assist from Michalski.
  • The Griffens scored again as time expired to make it 6-2 at the end of the first quarter.
  • With 11:18 to go in the second, Matthew Ilchuk added a goal for the Fighting Knights to bring them within three.
  • The Griffens added another goal to go up 7-3, but another goal from Michalski brought Lynn back to three goals down.
  • With 1:23 to go in the second, Connor Koppelman matched Westminster’s goal. His goal from Xander Cosenza made it 8-5 going into the half.
  • The Fighting Knights kept up the pressure as Tommy Ruddo scored just over a minute into the second half.
  • With 4:29 left, Colby Keefe added a goal to the Fighting Knights to make it 9-7.
  • :39 later, Michalski’s hat-trick from Mikey Troese brought the Fighting Knights within one.
  • After the Griffens scored three straight, Stanton added another goal for Lynn from Ilchuk to make it 12-9.
  • :36 later, Cosenza added a goal from Ruddo to bring the Fighting Knights within two.
  • :8 after that goal, a faceoff win picked up by Erich Wiitala would get passed to Cosenza for the score.
  • Westminster only leading by one now after three goals in :43 by Lynn, but the Griffens would win 16-11.
  • Michalski led the Fighting Knights with three goals and one assist.
  • Behind him was Cosenza with two goals and one assist, but leading the team with nine shots.
  • Stanton finished with two goals on six shots.
  • Ilchuck and Ruddo each had a goal and an assist.
  • Koppelman and Keefe each had a goal, Keefe’s being on his one shot.
  • A stellar performance in net from Benjamin Looges saw him have 14 saves including four in the fourth quarter.
