Lynn Men: Fighting Knights win their first game 17-8

Boca Raton, Florida – The Fighting Knights earned their first win of the season on a sunny Saturday afternoon. After a back and fourth first half, the Fighting Knights accelerated past the Greyhounds and won 17-8.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Lynn opened up the scoring early, putting up a 2-0 lead. At 14:16 Jalen Stanton scored to open the scoring followed by Erich Wiitala just six seconds later, both goals were unassisted.
  • After Assumption tied it up at 2-2, Connor Koppelman took the lead back for Lynn with :06 left in the first. Tommy Ruddo had the assist on the tie breaking goal.
  • The second quarter followed in same fashion as the first. Xander Cosenza scored :59 seconds into the quarter to add onto the lead. Matthew Ilchuk had the assist, his first of many.
  • Joseph Michalski added a goal for the Fighting Knights after a Greyhound goal to put Lynn up 5-3. Ilchuck racked up his second assist on the goal.
  • With 6:05 left in the second, Ilchuck added a goal of his own. Ethan Yorio extended the Fighting Knights lead further from Cosenza to put the Fighting Knights up 7-4.
  • After Assumption scored again to come within two to end the first half, Caleb Wells scored to put the Fighting Knights back up by three. Cosenza recorded his second assist on the goal.
  • 1:13 into the second half, Wells added another goal from Ilchuk to put Lynn up four.
  • With 11:00 left in the third quarter, Michalski added his second goal from Cal Gallagher.
  • With 3:44 left Ilchuk scored, followed by Cosenza adding another with 1:51 left, both unassisted. The Fighting Knights led 12-7 after three quarters.
  • With just over three minutes gone in the fourth, Cosenza tallied another goal to start the quarter. His hattrick goal put the Fighting Knights up 13-7.
  • Three minutes later in the quarter, Will Richardson scored for Lynn from Michalski.
  • After the Greyhounds scored to be down 14-8, the Fighting Knights scored three straight to end the game.
  • Reese Walker scored with 4:52 left, followed by Connor Houston scoring from Walker with 3:37 left, and finally Wells adding one last goal for his hattrick from Houston to win 17-8.
  • Wells and Cosenza both scored hattricks, while Cosenza added two assists.
  • Ilchuck scored two goals and added two assists.
  • Michalski also scored two goals and had an assist.
  • Walker and Houston both had a goal and an assist.
  • Colin Casey who started racked up six saves in the win, while Benjamin Looges came in to close out the game added three.
