ATLANTA – For coming up with clutch goals in Florida’s weekend sweep of ranked teams, Gators junior attackman James Dugan has been named the MCLA Division I Warrior Player of the Week for the period ending March 6.

Florida started the weekend with a Friday night matchup on the road against No. 6 Georgia Tech and the Baltimore, Md., product scored two goals and set up a third. Dugan’s final goal of the game proved to be the game-winner in the 10-9 upset.

On Saturday, the Gators matched up with No. 24 Michigan State. After trailing for much of the game, Dugan brought Florida level with the Spartans late in the fourth quarter, allowing his team to win it in overtime. He also dished out an assist.

For the weekend, Dugan had three goals and two assists.

“Dugan is an impact player for us in many facets of the game,” said Florida coach Garrett Hanrahan. “The goals and assists jump out on paper, of course, and he currently leads our team in goals and total points. But, when you look closer and review the tape, you see that his effect on the game is bigger than simply putting points on the board.

“He rides hard and scraps for ground balls. He has an excellent sense for the flow of the game, he knows when to calm things down and when to push the tempo. He works to get open for his teammates in the clearing game and is sure-handed when they send the ball his way.

“He delivers in big moments, and he radiates a confidence that spreads in the huddle.”

For his efforts earning the Warrior Player of the Week, Dugan will receive a Warrior Burn XP-O – a $100 value – for his efforts. Warrior is a proud sponsor of the MCLA.
