PBA: Men’s Lacrosse Beats Lincoln Memorial 10-3 On the Road

Harrogate, Tenn- The Palm Beach Atlantic men’s lacrosse team defeated Lincoln Memorial 10-3 Wednesday on the road. PBA (3-2) picked up its first road win of the season. This marks PBA’s first win over LMU in program history (previously 0-2.) 

PBA outshot LMU 53-23. The ‘Fish committed 14 fewer turnovers than the Railsplitters and won the ground ball battle 39-26. Additionally, the Sailfish went 9-6 on faceoffs. Goalkeeper Ben Lightsey made his fifth start of the season. The Texas native made 12 saves. The Sailfish had a shutout up until 8:54 in the fourth quarter. 

The Sailfish opened the game on a 4-0 run. Defender Aaron Miechiels initiated a fastbreak and connected with Austin Evans to give PBA a 1-0 lead. Evans finished the game with two goals. The ‘Fish was led by Hunter Hopman in the first half with two goals to bring his season total to eight.  

Both teams experienced a scoring drought in the second quarter to a Sailfish 4-0 lead at halftime. At 5:24 in the third quarter, Dylan Insolia assisted Ben Justice. Justice buried his shot to extend PBA’s lead to 6-0. Justice has scored four goals this season. At the start of the fourth quarter, the Sailfish capitalized on LMU penalties with two man-up goals. 

LMU answered back with a 3-0 run of their own before the Sailfish closed with the door with two goals under 3:50. Henry Sloyan notched his seventh goal of the season and finished the game with two assists. 

Next week the Sailfish will face North Greenville on Wednesday, Mar. 16 at home.
