PBA Men’s Lacrosse Defeated By #6 Adelphi

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- The Palm Beach Atlantic men’s lacrosse team dropped its home opener 21-10 to the No. 6 Adelphi Panthers. Henry Sloyan scored four goals and distributed one assist. Neil Calkin notched his second hat trick of the season. Joshua TurnerDylan Insolia , and Jonah Robertson scored one goal each. 

PBA outshot AU 48-42. The faceoff battle and ground balls were near even as both teams picked up 34 ground balls and Adelphi won 17 faceoffs to PBA’s 16. The Panthers went 2-5 on extra man opportunities.

The Panthers started the game on a 4-0 run before Sloyan ended the drought with his first goal of the year. With 3:37 left in the first quarter, Sloyan connected with Turner who found the back of the net for PBA’s second goal. The Sailfish scored two goals in the second quarter as Insolia assisted Sloyan with 4:58 left and  Calkin scored unassisted 38 seconds later. PBA trailed the Panthers 11-4 at halftime. 

The Sailfish capped off a 3-0 run when Hunter Lizza found Insolia for his lone goal of the game. Lizza led the Sailfish in assists with two. The Panthers answered back with a 3-0 run before Sloyan scored his third with 1:57 left. Sloyan dodged down hill and ripped a low shot for PBA’s fifth goal. Hunter Hopman’s lone assist came with time winding down in the third quarter. With 15 seconds left in the third quarter Hopman threw a skip pass to Sloyan who launched a perimeter shot to the top corner. The Sailfish entered the fourth quarter down 15-7. 

Calkin scored two goals in the fourth quarter. The Massachusetts native currently leads the Sailfish in goals with six this season. Robertson scored his fourth career goal and first of the season with two minutes and thirteen seconds left in the game. On the defensive end, Cole Gehman picked up two ground balls and caused two turnovers. Dylan Hunt caused one turnover and picked up one ground ball. Noah McKoeun won 14 faceoffs.
