PBA Men’s Lacrosse Defeated by Barton

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- The Palm Beach Atlantic men’s lacrosse team dropped a nonconference game to the Barton Bulldogs 17-12. Neil Calkin scored three goals for his third hat trick of the season. Cooper PorterDylan Insolia and Henry Sloyan scored two goals each. The Sailfish fell to 2-1 all-time against the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs out shot the Sailfish 42-37. PBA picked up one more ground ball than Barton and committed two more turnovers. 

The ‘Fish scored the first goal of the game when Sloyan assisted Calkin with 11:55 in the first quarter. The Bulldogs answered back with a 2-0 run before Sloyan found the back of the net for his seventh goal of the season. PBA freshman Cooper Porter took it himself for PBA’s third goal. With 5:42 left in the first quarter Hunter Hopman notched his second goal of the season. The South Carolina native received a pass from Sloyan and ripped a time and room shot from the perimeter. Sloyan distributed two assists in the first quarter.  The Bulldogs closed out the quarter on a 3-0 run. 

Early into the second quarter, Caleb Southard assisted Calkin inside for his second assist of the season. With 10:18 left in the first half Hunter Lizza dodged from behind the goal and found the back of the net. Lizza has scored two goals this season for the ‘Fish. Sloyan’s second goal came with 2:36 left in the first half. Sloyan leads the Sailfish in points this season with 13.

PBA trailed 11-7 at halftime. The Bulldogs opened up the second half on a 3-0 run. With 8:40 left in the third quarter, Insolia forced a Barton turnover. Insolia picked up the loose ground ball, ran down and ripped a shot for his first goal of the game. The PBA junior tacked on another goal with 12:56 left in the 4th quarter. Insolia is third on the team in goals scored with six this season. The Sailfish closed out the game on 3-0 run. Porter launched a shot with 7:51 left in the game. At the 6:20 mark, Porter connected with Calkin on the crease. Calkin finished the shot for his third goal of the game. Calkin leads the Sailfish in goals this season with nine. Jonah Robertson scored is second goal of the season with 3:12 second left in the game. Robertson dodged left and ripped an overhand shot for PBA’s 12th and final goal. 

Noah McKoeun won 16 faceoffs and went 50% from the faceoff x for the ‘Fish. Additionally, McKoeun picked up five ground balls. Faceoffs were even as both teams won 16 each. Defensively, Dylan Hunt caused two turnovers and picked up one ground ball. Ty Wright picked up two ground balls for the ‘Fish. Ben Lightsey started in net for the ‘Fish and finished the game with eight saves, one caused turnover, and six ground balls.
