BOX SCORE

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic women’s lacrosse team took the field tonight as they hosted the Quincy University Hawks. The Sailfish jumped ahead and looked to be in control but the Hawks closed the game strong after a weather delay and the Sailfish fell 13-12. The defeat drops PBA’s record to 2-2 on the early season.

The game started about as evenly as it could be as each side scored three goals in the opening quarter of play and shots were close as PBA held the 9-8 advantage in the first. Mattie Davis got the scoring going for the Sailfish as she found the back of the net just a minute in to give PBA the strong start. A Quincy goal was answered by Sara Metheny who scored for the first time this season. Megan Jackson found the back of the net with just seconds remaining in the opening quarter for PBA to tie the game at 3-3.

The Sailfish had a balanced attack in the opening half as six different players scored a goal in the opening half. The team’s leading scorer Olivia Larges found the back of the net for the seventh time on the season followed by goals Hunter Levinson and Ella Howlin as PBA led 6-5 at the halftime break.

PBA controlled the center circle as the ‘Fish won 20-of-29 draw controls for the game. The Sailfish scored four of the next five goals to jump ahead 10-7 after another Howlin goal and PBA had all the momentum before a 30-minute lightning delay changed that. Quincy outscored the Sailfish 6-2 after the break occurred with four minutes remaining in the third quarter.

The Sailfish went back and forth between their two goalies down the stretch as they looked to find someone to stop the Hawks’ momentum. Courtney Rausch got the start and played the first half and finished with four saves while allowing seven goals while Georgia Karns entered in the third and fourth quarter allowing six goals while making three saves.

Addyson Johnson, Larges, Levinson, and Howlin all finished with two goals apiece for the Sailfish Howlin added a team-high two assists as well. Katie Caras continues to be strong all around for the ‘Fish as the defender led the team in ground balls with three and draw controls with six.

The Sailfish will have a chance to bounce back quickly as they are back in action tomorrow. PBA will host Slippery Rock who is 3-1 on the season and coming off a defeat to Lynn on their Florida trip.
