BOX SCORE

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Palm Beach Atlantic women’s lacrosse team squared off with one of the best teams in the country this afternoon at Queens University. Ranked No. 3 in the country and the defending runner-ups in the NCAA Tournament last season, the Lions took down the Sailfish 21-4. PBA falls to 1-4 after the defeat.

The Lions jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the opening 2:30 of play before the Sailfish got on the board through Katie Avena, who scored her second goal of the season. From that point on, it was all Queens who scored the next six goals to close out the quarter leading 9-1. Queens would outscore the Sailfish 5-0 in the second quarter to build their lead to 14-1 at the half.

The Lions were able to retain possession throughout as they won 21-of-29 draw controls in the game. PBA was outscored 7-3 in the second half as Anna Laskaris scored her team-leading 10th and 11th goals of the season in the third quarter and Sara Metheny scored her fifth goal of the year in the fourth. Courtney Rausch was in goal throughout for the ‘Fish and made 10 saves on 31 shots on goal.

The Sailfish will look to get back on track when they travel to play at Lynn in a non-conference matchup on March 16. The Sailfish split two games with the Fighting Knights last season and Lynn is 5-1 so far this season.
