Tars End Road Trip Perfect with Win Over Flagler

The Tars remain unbeaten on the year, improving to 5-0, with their home opener set for next week

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. (March 5, 2022) – The Tars made their first trip to Flagler Lacrosse Field; leaving the grounds with a 21-7 victory.  The Tars remain unbeaten on the year, improving to 5-0.  The Saint are still looking for their program’s first victory, falling to 0-6.

Rollins got a game high four goals from Justin White and Jack Johnstone.  Marshall Ellison, with two goals and two assists, Bailey Pringle, with one goal and three assists, and Brett Wexelblatt with two goals and two assists, all registered four points for Rollins as well.  Bradley Peterson and Trevor Dorfman split time in goal for Rollins.  Peterson earned the win while Dorfman made six saves.  Thomas Garvin won 16-25 faceoffs and picked up a game high nine groundballs for the Tars.

Thomas Pritchard registered a hattrick for Flagler, while four other Saints each found the net once.  Nate Lehr, Mitchell Evans, and Tim Russell combined to make 13 saves between the pipes for Flagler.  Christian House went 11-18 on faceoffs, and picked up six groundballs to lead Flagler.

The Tars dominated statistically, taking 55 shots, including 34 on target, against the Saints 26, and 14 on target.  The Tars were successful on 23-24 clear attempts, and won the groundball battle 41-27.  The Tars also converted on 2-5 extra man opportunities, while holding Flagler scoreless on a pair of man up chances.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Quarter

  • Marshall Ellison got the Tars going just a minute into the game with score off an assist from Grant Hansen.
  • Rollins midfield then went on a tear, scoring four straight goals.  Justin White bookended the streak, which also goals from Finn Jent and Ian Dean’s first goal in the Blue and Gold.
  • Flagler cracked the scoreboard at the 4:41 mark of the quarter, making the score 5-1.
  • Ellison netted his second goal, beating his defender to the top side and blasting a shot into the top corner of the goal.
  • White completed his first quarter hat trick with a jump shot to the bottom corner in the final minute of the period.  The two team entered the first break with the score at 7-1.

Second Quarter

  • The Tars tallied the first goal of the second quarter on the extra man. Jent stung a corner off an Ellison assist.
  • Flagler pulled back within six, finding the net to make the score 8-2. But White continued his tear, reclaiming the Tars’ seven goal lead.
  • Jack Johnstone tallied a quick stick off a Bailey Pringle assists for the Tars tenth goal.  The pair then combined again for the eleventh, with Johnstone ripping a low to high shot.
  • Pringle tallied his first goal of the day to make the score 12-2.  The senior registered the man-up score off an assist from Ellison.
  • The Saints tallied the final goal of the half to cut the deficit to nine, as the team went to the break with the scoreboard showing 12-3.

Third Quarter

  • Grant Hansen opened the third quarter by pinging a bottom corner with a left handed shot.
  • Brett Wexelblatt played a role in the next three Rollins goals, assisting Johnston on a fast break for his first collegiate point.  The freshman then scored the next two goals, including one on a Justin Spencer assist, the junior’s first point of the season.
  • The Saints tallied the next three goals, as Pritchard tallied his hat trick.
  • Connor Coltharp’s first goal stopped the run, before Johnstone and Spencer connected to put Rollins up 18-6 to end the period.

Fourth Quarter

  • Peyton Miller got on the board to open the final quarter, as Rollins ballooned their lead to 19-6.
  • Coltharp’s second and Spencer’s first goal grew the lead to 21-6.
  • Flagler tallied one more before the final whistle, as Rollins easily saw out the final minutes of the contest, taking the 21-7 victory.

UP NEXT:
Rollins will take the field at Barker Family Stadium for the first time in 2022, as they host Westminster in Winter Park on Wednesday, March 9.  Faceoff is set for 8 p.m.

Fast start sends Rollins past Flagler

ST AUGUSTINE, Fla. – Thomas Pritchard recorded his second hat trick of the season in a 21-7 loss to No. 14 Rollins College Saturday Night at Flagler Lacrosse Field.

Flagler falls to 0-6 in its inaugural season. Rollins stays perfect, improving to 5-0.

The Tars offense came out firing right from the opening faceoff, firing off the first five goals of the game. Geraint Shaw stopped the Tars run off a feed from Ty Tom with 4:41 left.

Following Shaws goal, the Tars scored seven of the final nine goals in the first half, granting the Tars a 12-3 lead at halftime, and that lead would only grow in the second half. One of the two goals the Saints managed in that time frame came from Colten Reynolds, which was his first in his collegiate career.

In the third quarter, Pritchard recorded all three of his goals within three minutes of each other.

Christian House had an exceptional night in the faceoff circle, winning 11 of his 18 duels in the circle with Rollins. Logan Patrick caused two turnovers and picked up one ground ball. Mitchell Evans made his debut in the crease in the fourth quarter, making four saves.

The Tars as a team took 55 shots, 34 of those being on target. Justin White and Jack Johnston each posted four goals.

Flagler hits the road for another Sunshine State Conference matchup, this time against Saint Leo on Saturday, Mar. 12 at 2 p.m.
