BOX SCORE

CLEVELAND, Tenn. – The Palm Beach Atlantic women’s lacrosse team continued play on their first road trip of the season as they took on the Lee Flames. After a close, defensive opening half, Lee pulled away in the second half as the Sailfish fell 13-6. PBA’s record drops to 2-5 with the defeat.

Scoring chances were few and far between for both sides in the opening 30 minutes of play. Lee opened with two goals in the first five minutes of play before the ‘Fish settled in defensively. PBA goalie Courtney Rausch played arguably her best half of the season as she made five saves in the first quarter followed by three in the second. The Sailfish got their goal with under a minute remaining in the first quarter as Kelly Lyons scored her first goal of the season.

It appeared Addyson Johnson tied the game 2-2 early in the second but the Sailfish goal was disallowed and the Flames took advantage as they scored the next two goals to go up 4-1. PBA’s defense was keeping them in the game as the offense looked for its footing and possessions as Lee won the first eight draw controls of the game. Once again Ella Howlin came through for the ‘Fish scoring her 11th goal of the year late into the second quarter as PBA trailed 4-2 at the break.

The offenses of each side opened up a little bit in the second half. PBA scored two in the third through Sara Metheny and Olivia Larges but the Flames added five of their own as they built on their lead. Lee was in control of the game late but Metheny and Mattie Davis were each able to score in the final minute of action late as Lee prevailed 13-6.

PBA was outshot 31-12 and was dominated in draw controls as the ‘Fish won just 6-of-23 for the game. Rausch was solid on the night for the Sailfish in goal as she made 11 saves while allowing just nine goals as her replacement Georgia Karns allowed four goals and made one save in her limited action in the second half.

The Sailfish have one game remaining on their spring break road trip as they finish by facing Young Harris. The Mountain Lions are 5-5 so far on their season.
