Saint Leo: Men’s Lacrosse Heads to Limestone to Open 2022 Season

SAINT LEO, Fla. – Saturday, Feb 12 at noon marks the opening of the highly anticipated Saint Leo men’s lacrosse 2022 season, returning to a full lacrosse schedule. Saint Leo men’s lacrosse head coach, Brad Jorgensen, enters his 17th year at the helm of the Lions. Coach Jorgensen built the program in 2006 alongside University Vice President and Director of Athletics, Francis X. Reidy, becoming the first school in the State of Florida to add men’s lacrosse. The historic program will get things back to normal in Gaffney, S.C. The Green and Gold open the 2022 at Limestone in a Saturday battle starting at noon, recording the third consecutive year the Saints the Lions have opened a season against each other.
 
Jorgensen’s 2022 attack will be led by senior Tyler Eames, sophomore Guy Bistrow, and senior Evan Wray. Eames returns after leading last year’s offense in points with 27 scoring 17 goals and registering 10 assists. Meanwhile, Bistrow netted six goals and earned a season-high 17 assists. Third threat, Evan Wray found the back of the net 14 times in 2021 and notched three assists.


 
The Saint Leo midfield is full of experience paced by Peyton TysonRyan Marek, and Gino Riforgiato. “We’ve got a good group on the offensive side of the ball that is really starting to mesh well,” said Jorgensen.
 
“We also have some new additions from the junior college division,” hinted Jorgensen. In the cage, there is a battle for the starting spot.
 
The Green and Gold’s home opener is set for Friday, Feb 18 hosting Montevallo under the University Turf Stadium lights starting at 7:00 p.m.
