Saint Leo: Women’s Lacrosse Opens 2022 at Florida Southern Tuesday

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo women’s lacrosse program, who is ranked 23rd nationally according to the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) is ready to start 2022 on Tuesday, Feb 8 at Sunshine State Conference foe Florida Southern, who is tabbed seventh in the nation by the IWLCA, in a non-conference meeting under the lights. Under the direction of fifth-year head coach Caitlin Hansen, the Lions have complete renovated the program’s record book and notched multiple historical marks including the team’s first-ever All-America honors and national team rankings throughout the past number of seasons. Hansen looks to add to her 33-18 (.647) winning record at Saint Leo, 83-41 (.669) career record at the helm of a women’s lacrosse collegiate program.


 
Hansen returns 2022 USA Lacrosse Magazine Preseason All-American, Ashlee Wilsynski who headlines the 13 attackers. The dangerous offense also returns starters Fiona McLuaghlin, Lia LamendolaMeghan Bomleny, and off the bench goal scorers in Cassidy PassaroReagan BuhrmanKaci Archer, and Gigi Moll.
 
At the draw, Fiona McLaughlin retuns with the most experience, picking up 13 draw controls last season following Saint Leo graduates Ashley Salvett and Delaney Chrisco.
 
Marisa Souchak anchors the veteran backline. Souchak, the 2021 Yeardley Reynolds Love (YRL) Unsung Hero Award Winner, is coming off the 2021 season where she tallied 15 caused turnover and picked up 19 groundballs. The senior defender is helped by Emily Lampasone who earned eight caused turnovers and 15 ground balls during her sophomore campaign, and Mackenzie Cotter, who also caused eight turnovers and picked up 19 ground balls for the 2021 Lions.
 
In the cage, Liz Clark and Rachel Smythe return after each seeing playing time last season. They welcome Makayla Goetz to the goalkeeping crew.
 
The 2022 Lions roster features nine true freshman putting on the Green and Gold for the first time, along with transfer Melissa Reeves, a graduate student attack transfer from Westminster College (UT) and Madison Connlely a sophomore midfield transfer from the Southern New Hampshire University.
