SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo women’s lacrosse team continues early season momentum with 10-8 win over #23 Mount Olive.

The Lions now move to 2-0 after the impressive win over the Trojans on the road in North Carolina.

“It’s great to finish the trip 2-0,” said Coach Caitlin Hansen. “It was not our best offensive performance but defensively and in the cage we held it together and kept the score low so we could manufacture the win.”

In the first quarter, Junior Fiona McLaughlin got things started for the Green & Gold early on as she notched in a hat trick to give the Lions an early 3-0 lead.

The Trojans kept this game close with two goals scored from each side in the 2nd quarter as it went into halftime with Saint Leo holding the 6-4 lead.

The second half was exactly the same as what we saw in the 2nd quarter as both teams went goal for goal matching each other in the 3rd and 4th quarter.

The Lions finished with game with the win versus #23 Mount Olive 10-8.

“Our freshman goalie, Jessica Harclerode, made a big save at the end of the game and we had a large amount of possession winning the draw control battle and make big stops on defense,” said Hansen.

McLaughlin led the team in scoring with five goals. Her total on the season is now nine through only two games.

Graduate Marisa Souchak was physical throughout and was the team leader in ground balls with an impressive eight.

Up next, the Lions will be back at home at University Turf Stadium to take on Georgian Court University on March 1st with the game set to start at 7pm.
