SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo University Women’s lacrosse team announced its upcoming 2023 schedule Wednesday evening, featuring 17 games with nine at University Turf Stadium.

“We have not played a game outside of Florida since February 2020, so the overnight trips to North Carolina and Alabama early in the season will not only be good regional tests for us but great experiences for the players” said Head Coach Caitlin Hansen.  “I think we have a quality non-conference schedule and will see several opponents for the first time in program history.  This should prepare us for our SSC schedule, which is guaranteed to be a challenge.  The team is coming off a strong fall in which we welcomed 16 new players and we have several players returning to the line-up after suffering injuries last season, so I am really excited to put all the pieces together and see what we can do this spring!”

This season, the WLAX schedule includes two, NCAA tournament participants from 2022 and highlighted by four, brand new opponents.  The Lions will have a balanced number of day and night games, including two morning contests.

The Green & Gold begin the season on the road, taking a trip to North Carolina to face Barton College and the University of Mount Olive.

Saint Leo will have two full weeks off before its March 1st home opener against Georgian Court.  The Lions will host another midweek contest vs. Seton Hill before heading out to Alabama-Huntsville and Montevallo.

Following its trip to face Gulf South Conference opponents, the Green & Gold return home for its first-ever game against Bentley March 16th before traveling to St. Augustine, Fla. that weekend to play Flagler.  The Lions then have a three-game home stand, wrapping up its non-conference slate with Colorado Mesa and Frostburg State before hosting Tampa to conclude the month of March.

April will begin with a pair of Sunshine State Conference road games at Lynn and Florida Tech, followed by Florida Southern at home.  The Lions then travel to Palm Beach Atlantic April 15th before finishing the regular season with a pair of home games versus Rollins and Embry-Riddle (Fla.)

This year’s Sunshine State Conference tournament will be held April 27th and 30th, as the NCAA Tournament begins May 10th.  The NCAA DII National Championship is set for May 19th in Indianapolis, Ind.
