Noteworthy events during game

The Jupiter Warriors hosted the Columbus Explorers on Wednesday, April 27, for the Class 2A Region 4 semifinal. A great atmosphere was established by fans for both teams. Columbus fans took the road trip up from Miami as they faced the defending Class 2A state champs playing in their final game at home.

QTR 1:
After a couple of minutes where the teams were gauging each other Jupiter would score a pair of goals: Jupiter junior defenseman Parker Jahn broke the ice with a transition pole-goal, and senior Max Silver scored off an assist from Todd Giol. Columbus would score during an extra-man opportunity to cut the lead 2-1. Then freshman midfielder Dustin Sluszka would score a pair of goals, one of those was another assist for senior middie Giol. Jupiter would lead at the end of the period 4-1.

QTR 2:
Jupiter would quickly score off the the opening face off when Alex Mitchell found Jahn for his second transition pole-goal of the game. Columbus would respond behind junior Joey Villomar’s unassisted transition goal. that would be Columbus’ only goal in the quarter as the Jupiter defense would not allow the Explorers to get into any offensive rhythm–Led by Warriors’ goalie Kaden Creps’ 11 saves and defensemen A.K. Druhot’s 5 ground balls and 2 takeaways. Capitalizing on Columbus turnovers which lead to goals from Pareto and Sluszka, Jupiter would go into the halftime break with a comfortable 7-2 lead.

QTR 3:
Columbus started the quarter with renewed energy and Joey Villomar’s second goal closed the margin at 7-3. Jupiter’s offense would quickly settle into a rhythm where they possessed the ball for the majority of the quarter and reeled off 3 straight assisted goals: Hasner from Meyers, Sluszka and Jackson Bashaw from Max Silver. Jupiter’s lead at the end of the third was up to 10-3.

QTR 4:
Jupiter would keep Columbus off the scoreboard until around the 7-minute mark when the Explorers’ Jacob Angulo would assist Villomar’s second goal, and then score an unassisted goal thirty seconds later to cut the lead to 10-5. Jupiter continued to play a methodical offense which controlled the possession until the end of the game.

Columbus ends their season with a 14-6 record and Class 2A District 16 champs. Jupiter advances to play on the road against top ranked class 2A St Thomas Aquinas.
