No.6 Spartans Handle Business Against Saint Leo

SAINT LEO, FL. – The No.6 University of Tampa women’s lacrosse team handle business on the road against Saint Leo.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

Records: Tampa (10-2, SSC 2-0), Saint Leo (8-3, SSC 0-1)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

First Quarter: The game started with Tampa setting the bar high scoring two early goals by Allie Peebles and Julia Kolderman. They maintained their lead through the remaining minutes of the quarter not allowing Saint Leo to cut into it at all. In the last minute of the quarter, Cece Colombo scores a goal with 35 seconds left putting the score at 4-0 while Alex Walling comes up with two big saves to close out the first quarter. The goals for the Spartans were scored as follows:

9:12 – Julia Kolderman, unassisted

2:59 – Sophi Wrisk, unassisted

0:35 – Cece Colombo, unassisted

Second Quarter: The second quarter started with Tampa bringing the dogs out and scoring within the first two minutes. From there, it was nonstop with Tampa finding the back of the net three separate times. Saint Leo didn’t give up and netted their first goal of the game with 7:30 left. Tampa kept it pushing though with two more goals from Sarah Hinkle and Wrisk. Tampa scored two more goals to close out the half and put their lead at 11. The Spartan goals headed into halftime were scored as follows:

Score: 12-1 (Tampa)

Third Quarter: The third quarter starts with Tampa honing in on their defense while still converting on offense. Wrisk scores back to back goals to help Tampa extend their lead. Tampa doesn’t allow Saint Leo much time on offense rarely allowing them to set up their offense. Walling did her part on defense coming up with some huge saves after desperate shots attempts by Saint Leo. The Spartans goals were scored as follows:

3:57 – Allie Peebles, unassisted

Score: 15-1 (Tampa)

Fourth Quarter: The last quarter starts a little slower for Tampa, but they manage to get on the board. From there, Tampa controls the remaining minutes of the matchup adding another win to their season. The Spartan goals for the fourth quarter were scored as follows:

5:02 – Sophi Wrisk, unassisted

1:21 – Cece Colombo, unassisted

Final: 18-1 (Tampa)

#19 Lions Fall to #6 Tampa 18-1

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The #19 Saint Leo women’s lacrosse team falls to #6 Tampa.

The Lions now move to 8-3 after the disappointing loss to Tampa.

In the first quarter, Tampa went up 4-0 to establish early control of the game.

In the second quarter, Sophia Wood scored the Lions first and only goal of the first half.

Tampa took a 12-1 lead into halftime.

Tampa closed out the second half win consistent offense but an even stronger defensive performance as they finished on top 18-1.

Up next, the Lions go back on the road as they head towards Boca Raton on April 5th to face off versus #11 Lynn University. Start time for the matchup is 3:00pm.
