BOX SCORE

DeLand, Fla. – The Stetson lacrosse team fell short 16-13 to UMass Lowell at home on Sunday, March 5 at the Athletic Training Center. By the end of the first quarter, the Hatters were down 3-0 and needed to put in some work. With 12:37 left in the second quarter, Kaitlin Pani scored for the Hats, narrowing the score to 4-1 River Hawks. With 8:45 remaining, Grace Henslee scored with an assist from Samantha Paglino. With a minute and a half remaining in the quarter, the Stetson offense began to put in work. Camden Frissora had a free position shot and was able to put the ball behind River Hawk netminder Hannah Shaddock.

With 7:30 left in the third quarter, Pani recorded her second of the night from a free position shot, the score now 11-4 River Hawks. Shortly after, Katie Kornacki scored her first of the night- an unassisted goal that continued bringing light to the Hatter offense. As the quarter winded down, Pani received a pass from Paglino and was able to find the back of the net for her third of the night and a hat rick to be celebrated.

The fourth quarter consisted of an intense fought battle between both teams, and the Hats found their rhythm late in the game. Just 30 seconds into the final quarter, the Pani and Paglino duo ignited again for Pani’s fourth of the night. She continued to control the Hatter offense, scoring again with 13:14 left on the clock. Sam King netted her first of the night with 11:21 remaining- the score now stood 13-9 Hawks. With 5:56 remaining, the untouchable duo struck again for Pani’s fifth of the night, the Hatter now only down by five. Georgia Goering netted her first of the night and first of the season with 3:51 remaining, a big moment for her to kick off her Hatter career. With 2:31 left on the clock, Pani did the unthinkable, scoring a man-down goal and coming up big when she needed to for Stetson, tallying 7 total on the night- tying her total goals scored this season so far. King bagged the last score of the night for the Hatters, the game ending with a 16-13 final.

The Hatters will look to continue their success on Saturday, March 11 at 12pm against Merrimack at the Athletic Training Center.
