Tampa Women: #7 Spartans Start Season 2-0 After Win Against UAH

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The No. 7 University of Tampa women’s lacrosse team start the season 2-0 after their win against UAH on the road.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

Records: Tampa (2-0), UAH (0-2)

Location: Merrimack Sports Complex | Huntsville, Ala.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

First Quarter: The game started with four straight goals from Tampa. UAH ended up finding the back of the net putting their first points on the board for the morning. Tampa dominated the rest of the quarter with a last second goal from Julia Kolderman to close out the first quarter. The goals for the Spartans were scored as follows:

12:38 – Julia Kolderman, unassisted

10:48 – Sophi Wrisk, unassisted

9:47 – Gracie Colombo, unassisted

7:42 – Gracie Colombo, assisted by Olivia Mott

0:16 – Julia Kolderman, assisted by Sarah Hinkle

Score: 5-1 (Tampa)

Second Quarter: The second quarter began with an early goal from Kolderman, assisted by Lizzie Pierpont. Then two more goals were scored by Sophi Wrisk and Kolderman. UAH scored another goal as they attempted to cut into Tampa’s lead. Despite this, Tampa kept their foot on the gas. Alex Walling protected the net as best she could to help keep Tampa on top. The Spartan goals headed into halftime were scored as follows:

11:28 – Sophi Wrisk, unassisted

10:01 – Julia Kolderman, unassisted

5:20 – Mekelsey Montgomery, unassisted

2:29 – Julia Kolderman, unassisted

Score: 10-2 (Tampa)

Third Quarter: UAH jumped out into the third quarter scoring within the first few seconds. A few minutes later, Tampa responded with a goal of their own by Gia Colombo. Tampa fought for every possession and punched the ball into the back of the net scoring four more times before the end of the quarter. The Spartans goals were scored as follows:

12:15 – Gia Colombo, unassisted

9:19 – Emma McLoughlin, unassisted

7:38 – Julia Kolderman, unassisted

4:01 – Dani Waters, unassisted

0:19 – Sarah Hinkle, assisted Olivia Mott

Score: 15-3 (Tampa)

Fourth Quarter: The last 15 minutes began with Tampa starting the scoring with a goal by Pierpont. Tampa came with the same energy in hopes of shutting out UAH in the last quarter. A goal by Jenna Myhal with a little over one minute left sealed the game for Tampa resulting in them starting the season 2-0. The Spartan goals for the fourth quarter were scored as follows:

9:39 – Sarah Hinkle, unassisted

6:33 – Gia Colombo, unassisted

1:04 – Jenna Myhal, unassisted

Final: 19-3 (Tampa)
