Tampa Women suffer a loss to #4 Lindenwood

ST. CHARLES, MO– The University of Tampa Spartans women’s lacrosse team suffers a loss to #4 Lindenwood Saturday evening.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

Final: Lindenwood University Lions 18, University of Tampa 8

Records: #13 Tampa (3-4), #4 Lindenwood University (5-1)

Location: Hunter Stadium | St. Charles, Mo

HOW IT HAPPENED:

First Quarter: The game started quick with Tampa finding the back of the net in the first 60 seconds. Lindenwood tied the score early and this became a trend the entire quarter. Madison Birch netted three goals in this quarter and her goals kept Tampa close. With each goal scored, Tampa gained momentum. The goals for the Spartans were scored as follows:

14:01 – Madison Birch, assisted by Christina Romano

3:35 – Madison Birch, assisted by Brynn Nestor

2:57 – Madison Birch, unassisted

1:22 – Lizzie Pierpont, unassisted

Score: 4-4 (Tie)

Second Quarter: Tampa’s defense started strong to start the second quarter. Lindenwood started the scoring and soon pulled away. From there, Tampa’s defense struggled to stop them. Tampa’s defense allowed a high of six goals this quarter. Despite this, they still managed to score one goal. The goals for the Spartans were scored as follows:

8:14 – Cece Colombo, unassisted

Score: 10-5 (Lindenwood)

Third Quarter: Lindenwood started the scoring again this quarter. After a goal by Sarah Hinkle with over 10:00 left, Tampa got the ball rolling. They only managed to score once again this quarter, but they never stopped fighting. The goals for the Spartans were scored as follows:

10:48 – Sarah Hinkle, unassisted

Score: 15-6 (Lindenwood)

Fourth Quarter: Tampa opened the quarter slow and struggled to catch up. They ended the quarter scoring two goals in the last 10:00 of the game. The goals for the Spartans were scored as follows:

8:39 – Julia Kolderman, assisted by Georgia Glowaki

1:24 – Madison Birch, assisted by Julia Kolderman

  • Tampa and Lindenwood tied for groundballs, 16 for the night
  • Tampa committed 20 turnovers this game
  • Alex Walling had a season low of three saves
