Sticks For Soldiers: The Event That Makes A Big Difference – Today & Tomorrow in Sarasota!

  This weekend Cardinal Mooney will host Riverview-Sarasota, Saint John Paul II and Admiral Farragut: Cardinal Mooney Catholic High School 4171 Fruitville Rd. Sarasota, Florida Sticks for Soldiers is a non-profit charity with its mission to raise money to support future needs of severely-wounded soldiers and promote youth awareness of military service. The organization has raised nearly $900,000 in donations for wounded servicemen and their families since its inception in 2006. The Florida tournament is a community event, where game officials donate their time, parents from Cardinal Mooney Catholic High school volunteer their time, and the players are provided the opportunity to give thanks, provide support and raise awareness for our service members.

  This year’s Honoree is Christopher W Scott, US Navy 11/2006-1/2012! Chris is a native of Bradenton and a 1998 graduate of Southeast High School. After working as a civilian for several years, Chris was motivated to join the United States Navy.  He proudly served from 2006 – 2012 as a United States Navy Fleet Marine Infantry Corpsman, Fleet Marine Force / Surface Warfare Specialist, attached to 3rd Battalion, 2nd Marines. He was deployed to Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2007 and was severely wounded by an explosive device in Rawah, Iraq. He had subsequent service deployments including Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan) and as a Navy Corpsman providing Humanitarian Aid to Haiti after the earthquake in 2010.  Chris retired medically from the Navy in 2012. He is married to his high school sweetheart, Lisa, residing in Sarasota with his two beautiful daughters (Bristol 5, Zophia 9). He follows last year’s Honoree CPL(R) Vincent Mannion-Brodeur.
