BOX SCORE

BABSON PARK, Fla. (March 10, 2023) – The Webber International University women’s lacrosse team closed out a five-game home-stand on Thursday afternoon with a matchup against Division-II Emmanuel College. The Warriors defeated the Lions 22-16 and have now won four of their last five.

It was relatively even in terms of shots between the Warriors (5-2 overall) and Lions (1-7), however, Webber was able to make the most of their opportunities.

The first quarter was back-and-forth with several wings in momentum. Emmanuel opened the scoring before back-to-back solo-goals from Bryce Gerber and Kaitlyn Patterson earned the Warriors the lead. The opening quarter ended with the teams tied at 4-4, with two goals each from Gerber and Patterson.

Webber had a hot start to the second quarter, going on a 4-1 run over the first six and a half minutes with a pair of goals by Gerber. However, the momentum shifted once again as the Lions then scored three-straight goals, tying the game once again at eight apiece. Goals by Makayla Senter and Maria Horrell established a 10-8 lead for Webber before Emmanuel pulled one back just 30 seconds later. With just over a minute left in the half, Alia Loydd went on a roughly 70-yard sprint to go coast-to-coast and score, handing the Warriors an 11-9 lead at the break.

The Warriors came out of halftime to score the first three goals of the third quarter. They outscored the Lions 5-3 in total for the period and held a 16-12 lead heading into the final quarter of action. Just as the quarter before, Webber scored three-straight to extend its lead even further to 19-12. From that point on, the Warriors were able to keep Emmanuel at bay and see out the victory.

Leading the way for Webber was Gerber who tied her season and career-highs for goals in a single game with eight. She added two assists as well for a total of 10 points. Patterson also had a career-day, setting a new career-high with seven goals scored to go with her four draw controls. Senter contributed offensively as well, scoring her second hat-trick of the season. Horrell scored her second goal of the season and led the team in draw controls with six.

Defensively, Madison Hamilton finished with four draw controls and tied for the team-high in caused turnovers with Nicky Greene, each with two. Hamilton added a ground ball and two assists on the offensive end. Loydd recorded her seventh goal of the season and ended with a team-high four ground balls.

The Warriors will now hit the road as they travel to face a nationally-ranked opponent for the second time this season in the form of No. 7 Life University on Saturday, March 18th at 1 p.m.
