Webber Men’s Lacrosse Dominates in Non-conference Matchup Against Skyhawks

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (January 30, 2022) – The Webber International University men’s lacrosse team played in its second game in as many days as they traveled to Tallahassee, Florida for a neutral, non-conference matchup against Point University. The Warriors offense displayed its dominance, scoring 26 goals on their way to a 19-point victory over the Skyhawks.

The Warriors (2-0 overall) peppered the opposing goal, firing off 59 shots in total compared to just 17 shots taken by the Skyhawks (0-1).

Webber would draw first blood in the game after a goal from Alex West assisted by Chase Jackson less than a minute into the game. Back-to-back goals from Point, within 60 seconds of each other, would give the Skyhawks their only lead of the game at 2-1 with just under 13 minutes left in the first quarter. The Warriors would then score seven-straight goals to retake the lead while Point would add one more just before the end of the quarter, making the score 8-3 with Webber on top heading into the second quarter.

The second quarter would be all Warriors as they scored six times without allowing a single goal, increasing their lead to 14-3 at halftime. Five of the six goals in quarter number two would all come from different goal scorers with Dillon Ziemba finding the back of the net twice. West would earn his hat-trick with another goal after scoring twice in the first quarter.

The Warriors would keep their foot on the gas heading into the second half as Alexander Kew would score three of Webber’s first four goals, assisting the other, in the first five minutes of the third quarter. Point would score three times in the third quarter and once more in the fourth, but it would not be enough as the Warriors would continue to build upon their lead, scoring the final seven goals in the fourth quarter and solidifying the 19-point victory.

Jackson would yet again lead the team in points with a total of eight, scoring one goal and assisting seven. Kew would lead the team in both shots (8) and goals (5) as well as adding an assist to his credit. Ashton MarcumBeau MastersSamuel HenryBlake Nelson, and Ziemba all finished with two goals each for the game. Marcum and Nelson each had three assists for a total of five points on the day. Cade McCarron and Brycen Ortiz both had a goal and an assist each. Houston FinlaysonJonathan SchragerChuck Lower, Phlip Scopano, and Jackson Moore all added a goal each to round out the scoring for the Warriors. Kyle Wiegand did an outstanding job on face-off duty, winning eight of his nine attempts.

The Warriors now have a roughly two and a half week break before traveling to Indianapolis, Indiana where they will face Aquinas College and Siena Heights University on back-to-back days. The first game against Aquinas is set for Thursday, February 17th, at 2 p.m.
