BABSON PARK, Fla. (April 2, 2023) – The Webber International University men’s lacrosse team took on a nationally-ranked opponent for the fourth time this season, this time in the form of No. 4 University of the Cumberlands, on Saturday afternoon. The dynamic attack of the Warriors was too much for the Patriots as they ran away with it in a 19-7 victory on home soil.

It was Senior Day and the final home game of the season for the Warriors (11-1 overall, 6-1 AAC) in an all-important conference-clash of titans. Cumberlands (7-4, 2-3) was outmatched in terms of number of shots, 50-32, in total. This was due in large part to Webber’s success from the spot, winning 25 of the 29 total face-offs for the game.

It took almost four in-game minutes for the opening goal to be scored, but it was the Patriots who drew first blood. Another four minutes later, the Warriors responded through a solo-goal by freshman Jeremiah Loo. The two teams went back and forth for the remainder of the first quarter with Loo scoring his second roughly two minutes after the first. Cumberlands scored with nine seconds left on the clock to take a 3-2 lead into the second quarter.

Neither team found the back of the cage for the opening six minutes of the new period, however, a man-up goal from Loo kick-started an offensive tear by the Warriors. Webber scored five goals over the final nine minutes of the quarter. Three of those goals were scored by Nick Sheaffer who came off the sideline to score a second-quarter hat-trick, the other of which came through Chase Jackson.

The Warriors held a 7-3 lead at the break and Cumberlands quickly scored the first goal of the second half to pull back within three. Webber responded by rattling off three goals in just over a minute and a half. It took the Patriots just six seconds to score off of the ensuing face-off, but the Warriors continued their spell of offensive pressure. Jackson netted twice more, bringing his total to three for just the third quarter as Loo and Cade McCarron each scored as well.

Webber was on cruise control for the fourth quarter as it outscored Cumberlands 5-2 for the final period. Jack Cross came in to score twice in the fourth quarter as well as Samuel Henry who picked up his first goal of the season.

Loo ended the game with six goals and added an assist as well for a total of seven points. He was followed by Jackson who finished with four goals and led the team in assists with two. Sheaffer tallied four goals while McCarron and Cross each had two. Hunter Scott was lights out from the spot as he ended 24-27 on face-offs and led both teams with 16 ground balls. Jordan Elam picjed up five ground balls followed by Austin Schepers who recorded four and a team-high two caused turnovers.

The Warriors will now hit the road for some non-conference games as they first travel to Nebraska to matchup against Midland University on Wednesday, April 5th at 5 p.m. eastern time.
