BOX SCORE

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Alexa Zeruto totaled nine points to lead the Embry-Riddle women’s lacrosse team past Gannon (0-1) 19-8 for the Eagles’ first home win of the season. Zeruto made the most of her chances in the game, scoring five goals on just six shots and adding four assists to help the 20th-ranked Eagles improve their overall record to 2-1.

The game was close at the start with the Eagles and the Knights scoring two goals apiece in the first five minutes. Kenley Zeruto finished a feed from Anna Maurer at the 9:22 mark to break the deadlock and the Eagles scored seven unanswered to close out the quarter with a 9-2 lead.

The first three scores of the second quarter went to the Eagles with two of those goals coming from Alexa Zeruto with assists by her sister Kenley to put Embry-Riddle up 12-2. The Knights made a run late in the period scoring twice in the last 1:23 to cut the Eagle lead to 12-4 at the half.

Gannon’s momentum from the second quarter extended to the third as the Knights scored first to make it a 12-5 game. The Eagles responded by rattling off four in a row to extend their lead to 16-5 with 8:27 left in the frame. Over the last 5:52, the Knights edged the Eagles 2-1 in scoring and heading into the fourth, Embry-Riddle led 17-7.

The final 15 minutes of play featured very little in the way of offense as the teams combined for just three goals. Gannon goalie Riley Finnegan came up with four saves to thwart the Eagle effort, but they were unable to convert on the offensive end and the Eagles closed out their first game of the season at the Embry-Riddle Lacrosse Field with the win.

Sallie Squire totaled five points on four goals and an assist, while Samantha Reich added three goals and Kenley Zeruto tallied a goal and three assists. Aubrey Fixen went the distance in goal with seven saves.

The Eagles’ next game will be at 2 p.m. on Friday when they host Davenport at the ERAU Lacrosse Field.
