Ty Randell, a 6’3 190 lb attack from Oak Hall has committed to Furman.  At Oak Hall Ty was named 2012 First Team All Area, and 2012 Offensive Player of the Year with 59 goals 10 assists.  He also excelled in the class room earning membership in Mu Alpha Theta, Honor Roll, National Merit Award, and maintained a 3.7 GPA.  He will study Business, Environmental Studies and Natural Resources at Furman. Furman is a private, co-educational university of 2,700 students in Greenville, S.C.,.  They have not announced a lacrosse conference membership yet, but the Paladins play other sports as a member of the Southern Conference.  Furman announced on Feb. 9 that they would add men’s and women’s lacrosse to its Division I athletic program.  The teams will begin varsity competition by the 2014-15 academic  school year. Furman got their program off to a great start in May by announcing the hiring of legendary coach Richie Meade as the program’s first head coach. IFL- Why did you choose Furman? Ty -I chose Furman University because it fit me academically, athletically and socially. I fell in love with the campus. The coaching staff’s vision of where they wanted Furman lacrosse to go was impressive and inspiring. Coach Meade is a builder of men and Coach Athens is a rising star in the college coaching ranks. To have the opportunity to play for both of these coaches made my decision easy. IFL – What do you hope to accomplish with the rest of your HS career? Ty- While playing Division I lacrosse is a dream come true for me and I’m excited about the challenge, I still have unfinished business here at Oak Hall. We have a strong senior class returning and a great crew of underclassmen. Our goal is to put Oak Hall and high school lacrosse in Gainesville on the map. IFL- What or who has helped you get to this point? Ty – I’d like to thank my family, all of my high school teammates and Oak Hall School for its support of our lacrosse program. I would especially like to thank Coach Kirschner, Coach Montes, Coach Rant, Coach RJ, Coach Gaddy and Coach Ringdahl for believing in me and shaping me into the lacrosse player I am today.
