22 Boys From SoFlo Qualify for World Championships

Fort Lauderdale, FL – Casey Powell’s World Lacrosse Foundation U13 team qualified for the World Series of Youth Lacrosse (http://youtu.be/_RexhdaYcsM) to be held in Denver, CO July 2-4. The talented team made up of 22 boys from Delray Beach to Naples travelled to Charlotte, NC to successfully qualify this past weekend.  They beat teams from Virginia, North Carolina and Florida to make the championship game before losing to the region’s top seed Team Carolina 8-5. “The team arrived in Charlotte as a top player in South Florida and left as one of the top teams in all of the Southeastern United States,” said Casey Powell, Co-Founder of CPWLF. “We enjoyed watching the boys play and interacting with them off the field.  We are very proud of the players, parents, and coaches display of sportsmanship.  The conduct of the team is a reflection of the foundation and we really appreciate the way all represented.  In addition, a very special thanks to our outstanding coaching staff.” The team is coached by Pine Crest Head Coach and Florida Launch Assistant George Harris.  Brendan Gleason from St. Andrews coaches the defense.  Mark Geddis and Bo Lamon also serve on the staff. The team will compete locally in area-based tournaments before heading to Denver, CO to compete with the top teams in the country and around the world. All teams will play five games at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park with the top two teams advancing to the Championship Game, which will be played at Sports Authority Field at Mile High on July 4. A World Champion will be crowned live at 3 p.m. EDT ON ESPN2. Throughout the three-day competition, highlight films and interviews with players will be created and aired during the live broadcast of the Championship Game. All players competing in the World Series of Youth Lacrosse will receive never-before-seen Warrior World Series of Youth Lacrosse apparel, including game shorts, a tech T-shirt and a hoodie, as well as a branded gear bag. In addition, all players will receive an official commemorative Warrior World Series of Youth Lacrosse stick. The two teams in the Championship Game will dress in NFL/MLL locker rooms and be outfitted in special Championship uniforms provided by Warrior. In addition to competing in the event, players will participate in clinics hosted by members of the Denver Outlaws, attend autograph sessions with Outlaws players and other Major League Lacrosse stars and attend a banquet at Sports Authority Field at Mile High the night before the Championship Game. The event will conclude with all players being acknowledged at halftime of the Denver Outlaws MLL game vs. the Florida Launch at Sports Authority Field at Mile High.
