The Florida Launch are set to travel for a doubleheader this weekend beginning with the Charlotte Hounds on Friday. The Launch are playing the Hounds in a makeup game from an earlier season weather cancellation just before taking on the Atlanta Blaze on Saturday. Florida is currently led by All-Star Kieran McArdle’s 42 points and Connor Buczek’s league leading five two-point goals. The Launch are coming off an action-packed week featuring a big 20-19 win over the New York Lizards and a close 14-13 loss to the Chesapeake Bayhawks. McArdle downed the Lizards with a monster 10 point performance that earned him Warrior Offensive Player of the Week. McArdle received help from rookie Steve Pontrello who recorded his first career hat trick. Pontrello’s breakout week continued as he posted five points against the Bayhawks with the always consistent McArdle posting two goals and four assists. The emergence of Pontrello comes at just the right time as the Launch are looking to play spoiler to the Hounds’ playoff aspirations. As of for Friday’s opposition, the Hounds have gone 2-1 since the cancellation with the Launch. Charlotte is currently led by Joey Sankey’s 39 points and Mike Chanenchuk’s 37 points. Sankey didn’t play against the Launch in the first meeting so it will be interesting to see how effective he will be against the defense anchored by Tucker Durkin and Matt Landis. Charlotte’s Charlie Cipriano has allowed the MLL’s fifth highest amount of goals with 139 — a number that the Launch attack looks to increase by game’s end. Heading into the second contest of the weekend, the Launch look to extinguish the Atlanta Blaze’s last chance of making the postseason. The Blaze are coming off a rough 18-11 loss to the Denver Outlaws. Atlanta took the first meeting with Florida but their roster looks a lot different with trades and injuries plaguing the team. Kevin Rice and Matt Mackrides will be out the remainder of the season for the Blaze due to injury. Mackrides’ absence leaves a major hole in the offense as he moved into the starting role when acquired by the Blaze in a blockbuster trade that sent Myles Jones to Chesapeake. Game time for the tilt with Charlotte is set for 7:30p.m. ET and the Blaze matchup will start at 7:00p.m. ET. Both games will be streamed live with Lax Sports Network on Friday and ESPN 3 on Saturday. Follow @florida_launch on Twitter for live game updates.
