“Battle of the Beach” Benefit Tournament set for November 6th at FIT!

On November 6th 2011 the Florida Tech men’s lacrosse team will be hosting the first annual Battle at the Beach.  This event is going to be a 4 team tournament consisting of Florida Tech, The University of Miami, Palm Beach Atlantic and Florida Gulf Coast. This event is also going to be a benefit tournament with all the proceeds raised throughout the day will be donated to the Michael Stolzenberg trust fund.  Michael is an 11 year old boy who at 8 years old was bitten by a bug and went into septic shock.  As a result Michael had both hands and feet amputated.  The funds raised are going to help pay for prosthetics that will help Michael live a close to normal life.  Michael is still actively (to the best of his ability) playing lacrosse.    For more information you can view Michael’s story on YouTube by visiting these links http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W6rv651ZGP4; this video shows Michael playing lacrosse http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ufGMlg8AxEM&feature=watch_response.  I highly recommend watching both as it will introduce Michael to you and watch him working on overcoming his challenges. We are planning a lot of different “mini-events” on that day.  We will be having a fastest shot contest and an accuracy contest where people of all ages can sign up and test their lacrosse skills.  We are also planning “mini clinics” to be run throughout the day.  Each participating team will be running a 30 minute “mini-clinic” for lacrosse players in the community.  Each clinic will cover a different topic and will be $5.00 per clinic (with all of these funds going to Michaels trust). The tournament will run from 9am (start time of first game) until 4:30pm.
