It was “déjà vu all over again”, as Bishop Moore (6-1) once again held off a late rally to defeat Timber Creek (4-3) 10-9 in the final game of the 2012 O’Town Showdown. Bishop Moore and Lake Highland ended the two day event with 2-0 records, while Winter Park and Timber Creek each finished 0-2. The Hornets got off to a fast start once again, with Joey McMahan (Tampa), Addison Lanpher and Michael Bennett all scoring in the first 3:15 of the game. Hofstra signee Jake Rooney answered back for the Wolves, but not long after that, McMahan, Lanpher, and Charlie Moran netted three more for the Hornets. Rooney found the net once again, and the quarter ended with Bishop Moore ahead 6-2. Moran would score the only goal in the 2nd, off a feed from McMahan, and the Hornets lead 7-2 at the half. Timber Creek wasted no time, with Rooney scoring 15 seconds into the 3rd. Moran would complete his hat trick a little over a minute later to make the score 8-3 Bishop Moore. The two teams traded goals, and Rooney scored again to close out the 3rd with Bishop Moore leading 9-5. Scott Turner would lead the Wolves into the 4th by scoring two quick goals to cut the Hornet lead to 9-7. Jack Tangeman answered for the Hornets, but Turner wasn’t finished, scoring his third goal of the quarter, and the score was now 10-8 Bishop Moore. Jake Rooney tallied his 5th and final goal with just under 3 minutes remaining to narrow the gap to 1. Hornet goalie Adam Sawicki held off an onslaught of Timber Creek shots in the final minutes to preserve the victory. He finished the evening with 17 saves, 6 in the 4th quarter.
