GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida’s sophomore attacker, Ashley Bruns (Ellicott City, Md.), was named the WomensLax.com National Player of the Week, as announced Tuesday. This is the first National Player of the Week honor for the Gators in program history.  After leading the Gators to victories over Colgate and the 11th-ranked Syracuse Orange this past week, Bruns currently ranks 12th in the country in points overall and 13th in goals scored overall. The 16-11 victory over perennial powerhouse and 2010 Final Four participant, Syracuse, lifted the Gators to No. 9, the highest ranking in program history. Against the Raiders, Bruns scored three goals, and added a caused turnover, but it was her dominant performance against the Orange which earned Bruns the weekly award. Bruns netted six goals, on seven shots, tying her career high and her own program record for goals in a game. Bruns, the 2010 ALC and WomensLax.com Rookie of the Year, also tallied an assist and a draw control in the victory.  Bruns and the Gators (8-1) have now won eight in a row, and will return to action against the Fairfield Stags on Wednesday, March 23rd at 6:30 p.m., before welcoming American Lacrosse Conference foe, Ohio State, to Donald R. Dizney Stadium on Saturday, March 26th at 12:00 p.m.
