Last night the Cardinal Mooney Cougars (Sarasota) and Tampa Catholic Crusaders squared off in the first ever District 8 Championship. The Cougars, got out to an early lead but the Crusaders stayed hot on the their heels in a see saw battle that would last until the final whistle when, :23 seconds into overtime, Senior attackman Spencer Kinsella fed to Sophomore middie Grant Windham who put the final goal in the cage. TC ran us ragged tonight. They are the hardest running team we faced all season. We had a hard time keeping pace with them but we capitalized on opportunities whenever we had them and never gave up. We had dedicated our season to teammate Joey Powers who died of Leukemia this past November. At one point late in the 4rth quarter, our crowd started chanting his initials and I think it really helped get my guys fired up. Those kinds of games are tough mentally. I’m really proud of my team for having the character to rise to the occasion. Cardinal Mooney advances to the First Round Play In against the winner of Apopka vs. West Orange
