Above – sophomore Austin Guerrina  photo by Ginger Carter Lake Brantley took on a spring break traveling team, the Centennial High School Knights from Roswell, GA on Brantley’s home Tom Storey Field on Tuesday night the 8th. Centennial was playing the last of their Florida Spring Break tour games and bound for home afterward. The Knights opened up with scoring from Brendan Spence and Nathan Soloman a junior Syracuse commit. The Knights showed why they are Georgia State Champions and have been in the running for the past several years. No dropped balls, quick stick skills and sharp passes to attackmen placed them in front of the crease at good angles to keep scoring opportunities plentiful. Brantley’s defense still applied plenty of stick bending checks and yard sales pressure to turn the ball over but the Knights’ skills around the crease prevailed. Their sharp passes were made with the cutting attackman barely cradling the ball before the shot was cracked leaving the keeper with no time to lock on and defend. At half time the score was 9 to 2 Centennial Knights. In the third quarter Brantley slowed the Knight’s attack and did not allow them to score adding only an addition score for the Patriot’s points. In the fourth quarter the Knights continued to role adding three more goals. The Patriots did answer back with goals from Jared Bernhardt and Austin Guerrina ending the game with a final score of 12-5 Centennial, GA. Looking at the statistics the teams were pretty evenly matched up. Clears, face offs, ground balls and number of shots were similar. Even in EMOs, neither team scored on each other, although Brantley had several more opportunities through Centennial’s penalties. Lake Brantley’s next game will be on the road in Jacksonville against Coach Tom West’s Ponte Vedra Sharks on Thursday the 10th. The following week most schools will start their district’s play-in and play-off series games.
