Coach’s Poll – Winter Park Drops Out, Pine Crest Moves Up in the Top Ten Rankings

Written by Lee Roggenburg on . Posted in .
The weekly FloridaLacrosseNews.com coach’s poll remained the same at the top four spots this week, but below that things really began to shake up. St. Andrews, Lake Highland, St. Thomas Aquinas, and Ponte Vedra held onto the top four spots.  St. Andrews won two games by a combined total of 42-1 over Palm Beach Gardens and Gulliver Prep.  LHP had a huge week playing 3 top ten teams in a row and winning all of them in strong fashion.  Boone 18-8, Timber Creek 11-7, and Winter Park 16-8.   St. Thomas Aquinas was dominant in two 19-1 wins over Dwyer and Western-Davie while PV defeated Nease 17-1 in their only outing of the week. The big mover this week was Bishop Moore.  They won three games this week, two of them were in the O’Town Showdown against very good opponents.  They gutted out two very close 10-9 wins over Winter Park and Timber Creek. Pine Crest rocketed into the top ten, landing at the number 7 spot on the strength of a quality 15-9 win over Benjamin (last week’s #6 team.) Jupiter drops from 6 to 7, Boca is up from 9 to 8, Benjamin drops from 6 to 9 and Boone from 8 to 10.  Winter Park dropped two games this week and moved out of the top ten for the first time this season. 1. St. Andrews 2. Lake Highland 3. St. Thomas Aquinas 4. Ponte Vedra 5. Bishop Moore 6. Jupiter 7. Pine Crest 8. Boca Raton 9. Benjamin 10. Boone Other teams receiving votes this week include Bartram Trail, Creekside, Lake Brantley, Lake Mary, Timber Creek and Winter Park. The FloridaLacrosseNews.com game of the week is the Lake Highland Prep vs. Boys Latin game on Saturday.  Boys Latin is ranked at #34 on the ESPN Rise Fab 50 and Lake Highland is at #32.  That should be a great game.  We will see how the defending state champions of Florida do against a top team from America’s top High School league, the MIAA. Some other good games on tap this week include St. Andrews at Boca Raton as well as Pine Crest vs. St. Andrews.  As one pollster put it, “Pine Crest has been quietly tearing it up and have to think Shannahan will have his kids ready fore this one. Could tip the balance in the state and possibly allow Pine Crest to put their stamp on potential title contenders.” And our favorite match up of the week is the Olympia vs. West Orange.  What??? you  ask? Well, it’s not just a game, it’s the Pink and White game for breast cancer.  Players from each team will be escorting survivors in the battle against breast cancer onto the field.  There will be great food, great sportsmanship, and the hope to find a cure for breast cancer. All monies will be donated to MD Anderson.  Our mom is a breast cancer survivor and we certainly do support and appreciate the efforts of these boys.
