JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville’s Jen Cosgrove scored the first of her three goals 39 seconds into the game and teammates Nikki Erdely and Nicole Albino added hat tricks of their own as the Dolphins beat Davidson 19-14 in a National Lacrosse Conference game at Davidson, N.C. Sunday. Cosgrove and fellow sophomores Ali Hoffman and Brittney Orashen propelled the Dolphins (8-3, 2-1) to a 3-0 lead which they extended to 5-1 before Davidson (4-7, 1-1) fought back to tie at seven on a goal from Jenna Mugele with 5:22 to play in the first half. Thirty-five seconds later, Albino gave the Dolphins the lead for good when she scored. JU’s Amanda Hurley and Erdely rounded out the first-half scoring, Erdely on an assist from Kaitlin Stewart with one second to play, for a 10-7 halftime lead. JU started the second half scoring six of the first seven goals and an insurmountable 16-8 lead. Stewart, Hoffman, Cosgrove with two goals and Albino with another two did the damage to start the half. Morgan Derner, Morgan Basler and Rachael Krell all had goals for JU and freshman Jess Worcester, Erdely and Stewart had assists. Sophomore Rachel Hannon was the team’s defensive stalwart as she won seven draw controls, had four ground balls and caused five turnovers. Kaylee Quint had three ground balls and a caused turnover and Albino had two ground balls and a like number of draw controls. Worcester had three draw controls in addition to her assists. The Dolphins are off until April 13 when they travel to Liberty.
