Delray Beach’s ELEV8 Sports Institute to open up Lacrosse Academy

From ESPN 760 By: Wells Dusenbury After establishing training academies for baseball and basketball, the ELEV8 Sports Institute is now adding lacrosse to the fold. The Delray Beach based institution has announced plans to start up a lacrosse academy, which could begin play as early as this fall. ELEV8 has selected Tony Lowe, founder of the Snipers Lacrosse program, to lead the program. As part of the agreement, ELEV8 has purchased Snipers Lacrosse. The program, which comes on the heels of ELEV8 founding the Bucky Dent Baseball Academy last year, will mirror many of the same facets. Players who enroll in the program will attend school from 8:00 a.m.-12:15 p.m. at either American Heritage or Grandview Prep. From there, players will have the opportunity to work on speed training, weight training, and their lacrosse skills. While the school day will be much shorter than usual, Lowe doesn’t see that as an issue for potential players. “They’re still going to have a rigorous academic schedule,” said Lowe. “The only thing is that it’s condensed and so it’s just in the morning hours, so they don’t have the study hall or the long lunch or gym. They are just able to go into school, take care of their business and go out on the field and take care of their business out there.” Lowe hopes to have 20 full-time academy students for next year, but thinks the first full year will be the 2013-2014 school year to due the late timing of the announcement. The academy program will be open to students from 9th-12th grade. Read the rest at ESPN760.com
