JU splits two-game West Coast road trip   Eugene, Ore.- Freshman Morgan Derner scored a career-high four goals but it wasn’t enough as the JU women’s lacrosse team fell, 15-9, to the University of Oregon at Pape’ Field on Sunday afternoon. Kaitlin Stewart and Ali Hoffman each scored two goals for the Dolphins, yet JU came away with a split off a two-game West Coast trip in falling to 3-2.  Alex Breiner tallied four goals for the Ducks as Oregon improved to 2-1. The Ducks surged to an 11-3 halftime lead before JU mounted a second-half comeback. JU scored four of the final five goals before the final horn, with Hoffman scoring her pair less than two minutes apart. The Dolphins have out-scored opponents, 34-21, in the second half this season. Oregon raced to a 5-1 lead just 10 minutes in. Jana Drummond scored the first two of her three total goals in that stretch. Bina Barrett, who also logged a hat trick for the Ducks, also netted her first goal in that run to lift Oregon to a wire-to-wire win as the squad improved to 2-0 against JU in the all-time series. JU, which beat Fresno State in a neutral site the day before, saw Derner double her previous single-game high. She scored twice in the first half and two more times after the break to keep the Dolphins in it.  It was Derner’s third multi-goal game after the first-year attacker previous logged two-goal games against Cincinnati and Denver, respectively. But Oregon utilized a 20-6 draw-control advantage to pull ahead. JU sophomore goalkeeper Karli Tobin made seven of her eight saves after halftime to keep the Dolphins comeback hopes alive. But the Ducks saw six different players score in the opening half to break open the contest. Shannon Propst and Nikki Puszcz also added two goals for the Ducks for Oregon’s second straight win. JU will return to the Sunshine State and will host nationally ranked Vanderbilt on Saturday. Game time at D.B. Milne Field is set for 11:30 a.m.
