District Play-Offs are Under Way – Here is a Round – Up of the Action

Written by Lee Roggenburg on . Posted in .
Check out the second installment of the play off round up The district play-offs started last night so we decided to take a look and see how our 2012 Season Preview Picks were holding up so far. District 1 – We predicted either Leon or Maclay to win this district.  Last night Leon ousted Chiles and Maclay rolled over Lincoln-Tallahasee setting up a championship game between our two picks.  We know it’s cheating to pick two teams, but we hadn’t seen either team play so we needed to hedge our bets a little bit. District 2 – We picked Episcopal to win District 2 and they rolled over Robert E. Lee 24-1 and Stanton Prep won an exciting OT game over Paxon 5-4.  So far so good. District 3 – We ran into a little hiccup as we expected Fletcher and Sandalwood to play for this championship.  But Providence ousted Sandalwood last night 11-6. District 5- Very interesting here.  We picked PV to win this district, in fact we picked them to make the final four.  But the Creekside vs. Bartram Trail rivalry has become a little heated.  If you read the LaxPower.com forums you may have shown up at the game last night expecting the parents to suit up and play!  However, the surging Creekside team kept an amazing season rolling and topped BT 11-6 and PV crushed Nease 19-3.  PV, I’m sure, will not be looking past the dangerous Creekside team.  This is a potential upset if PV is not ready. District 8 – Not surprisingly Lake Mary got past Father Lopez 22-0.  But what is surprising is Seminole HS beating Winter Springs for the second time this season and ending Winter Springs’ season!  The regular season victory for Seminole HS marked the first ever victory for Seminole over the Bears.  Now they have done it twice. District 14 – We picked Dr. Phillips and Olympia to play for the championship of this district.  Dr. Phillips got past Lake Nona last night and Olympia beat Freedom.  Don’t forget that the winner of this district gets a bye in the next round.  So one of these teams is going deep! District 16 – Bishop Verot, our pick to win this district, got the tournament started with a 15-1 win over Cypress Lakes.  Estero and Ft. Meyers played into OT with Estero winning it 15-14. District 17 –We predicted Gulf Coast would take 17 and they got started by blanking Immokalee 20-0.  Palmetto Ridge beat Golden Gate 7-4. District 18 – Barron Collier was the top pick for District 18.  After beating Lely 21-1 they will face Naples who topped Community School 15-11. District 19 – Melbourne Central Catholic was the favorite going into this season.  They beat Holy Trinity 17-4 and Viera beat Merrit Island setting up a pretty good championship game. District 20 – Our pick, Vero Beach, got started in this tournament with a 16-1 win over Sebastian River and Saint Ed’s got past John Carroll Catholic 8-5. District 21 – We picked a Jupiter vs. Jupiter Christian battle in this district.  That is what we are going to get, but we didn’t realize just how good Jupiter was going to be this season.  They beat Jensen Beach last night 19-5.  Jupiter Christian beat Martin County 15-8 setting up the championship game.  We had picked the Pine School to make this tournament but Martin County fought their way into it.  Jupiter was undefeated going into last week. District 24 – Saint Andrew’s was the obvious pick for this district.  They beat Pope last night 14-2.  Boca is playing very well and ran past Spanish River in the first round.  While we still don’t think anyone will stop St. Andrew’s anytime soon, Boca is good.  Very good.  It is not outside the realm of possibility that we could see an upset. District 26 – Pine Crest was our pick to win 26 and nobody in this district is going to stop them.  They beat Taravella 25-0 last night and will face Cardinal Gibbons who won a close battle Calvary Christian 11-10. Check back again tomorrow and we will have a round-up of the district tournaments that start on Wednesday.
