Florida finished the 2013 Brine National Lacrosse Classic on a high note, defeating Virginia 8-2.  Earlier on Tuesday, Florida dropped a 9-3 decision to the New Jersey South team, and finished pool play with a 1-3 record.
Opening the day against New Jersey, Florida took a 3-2 lead early in the 2nd half, on goals by Jonathan Thelan, RJ Raymond, and Jonathan Spevacek.  But from that point on, it was all Jersey, as they scored 7 unanswered goals to record the victory.  After an hour break, Florida was back on the field to take on Virginia.  Coach RJ Dawson (St. Andrews) spoke to his players about the importance of playing at full speed for the entire game and it showed, as Florida jumped out to a 3-0 lead at the half.  The second half saw more of the same, as Florida continued to press on defense and move the ball quickly upfield for numerous scoring opportunities.  Thelan once agaion led Florida with 3 goals.  Also getting on the board were Adrian Franzone, Addison Lutes, Josh Marmetschke, Noah Menendez, and Julian Taylor, who connected on a nifty behind-the-back shot on the crease off a Ryan Omerod feed.
Spevacek, Thelan, Mark Smith, and Joey Giuffrida were named to the 2014 All Star team, while Goalie Austin Cotton and Defenseman Josh Williamson were on the 2015-2016 squad.6
