via Naples Daily News 12/30/16   Excerpt: Sometimes it helps to have a plan, and Michael Nathan had one all along. The Naples native for years dreamed of playing Division 1 lacrosse for a top-tier program, and this past summer he tried out for 2016 men’s national champion North Carolina Tar Heels as a walk-on. Nathan, 20, made the team’s 2017 roster, becoming the first Southwest Florida boy’s lacrosse star to play for a traditional and elite college power. “I didn’t want to regret not playing lacrosse at the highest level when I was 40 years old,” Nathan said. He began working at age 14 to help defray his lacrosse expenses. As a teen, he said, he kept a list and ranked the colleges where he wanted to play lacrosse and North Carolina was No. 1 on his list. Nathan excelled on the field, as he garnered numerous awards such as being named the Daily News top lacrosse player for two years straight, all-state and an All-American his senior year at Barron Collier High School in 2015. He also earned top marks in the classroom, a National Honor Society member who graduated summa cum laude.
