Written by Lee Roggenburg on . Posted in , .

The people at FloridaLacrosseNews.com have invited comment from every girls’ district in the state. We looked at last year’s records, and spoke with coaches, players, and fans from around the state. Although we would still like to get more feedback, we are now able to present an in depth look at a few of the districts in the 2011 FHSAA girls’ high school lacrosse season. We are sure you will disagree with many of our findings, so feel free to log in and leave your own comments!

District 2 FHSAA Girls 2011 Season

District 2 Girls will come down to a three way race this season. Bartram Trail, Creekside, and Ponte Vedra will all have a shot at the title.

Creekside features a slew of talent including Jordyn Pelkey and Katie walker on attack, Sabrina Jennis, Sabine Mosal, and JC Householder at Midfield. They have a trio of solid defenders in Jen Nardone, Kelly McCormack, and Natalie Brown. Between the pipes they have Jane Bunn who should be ready for a solid year.

Bartram Trail keep an eye on Taylor McCord, Jordan Cook, Melissa Coggin, and Aubrey Asplen.

Nease also has a couple of strong players to watch in Jenna Smith and Bri MacNaught.

District 3 FHSAA Girls 2011 Season

District 3 is the smallest District in the State. It currently includes the 3 high schools in Gainesville – Buchholz, Eastside, and Gainesville High.

Buchholz: BHS is in its third year of lacrosse having played last year in District 2 compiling a record of 11-5, finishing the season as District Runner-up to Ponte Vedra. The team graduated 4 seniors last year and have most of their starters returning for the 2011 season.

Bobcat players to watch are; Olivia Farris, Sr., Attack, who led BHS in goals scored last year with 46.

Kristen Gomez, Jr. Attack, she scored over 40 goals in each of the last two seasons, Erin Millinoff, Sr., Mid-field. Erin is a four year starter who plays aggressively at both ends of the field… she is Buchholz’s “do-it-all” player.

Eastside: EHS is in its second year of lacrosse. The team is very athletic, having drawn athletes from the soccer team, and will be a force once their skills improve. Eastside went 3-7 last year but should be very competitive this season.

Ram players to watch; Grace Chrzanowski, Sr. Attack. The EHS soccer goalie is the leading scorer on the lacrosse team. Grace is a natural talent who should have a break out season. Kendall Nettles, Sr., Goalie. She is a very quick and athletic goalie.

Gainesville High School: GHS is also in its second year of lacrosse. The team went 0 -10 last year, but should be competitive this year. Most of the team, including their leading scorer and goalie, are returning for the 2011 season.

District 5 FHSAA Girls 2011 Season

Lake Brantley Girls Look to stay on top of District 5

“This season I think there will be a lot of ‘teams to beat,’ but I feel confident in my team’s ability to stay on top of our district, as well as in Central Florida,” says Lake Brantley Head Coach Hanna Hopkins.

Lake Mary will be looking to knock off the defending champion, but Coach Hopkins has some deep talent returning and she says to be on the lookout for some new up and coming talent as well.

Lake Brantley will be sporting three players who have already committed to NCAA teams, Chelsea Pinneke, Middie, Rollins College, Katie Trahanas, Attacker, Merrimack College, and Kaleigh Henry, Middie, Harvard. That’s not to mention the currently uncommitted Chelsea Monahan (#20 on the ESPN Rise National Poll of top defenders.)

Lyman HS and Lake Howell will round out this district.

District 11 FHSAA Girls 2011 Season

Last year was the first year for all members of District 11 in the FHSAA, so this will be their first year of eligibility for playoffs. Each member of District 11 will field a Varsity and Junior Varsity team this year. Coaches, players and school administration are 100% supporting girl’s lacrosse and it won’t be long before this district produces a final four team according to some.

Barron Collier is a young team after graduating 15 seniors from last season. Team leaders: Luisa Bravo, Sr. goal keeper, Dannie Solis, Sr. midfield, Abby Peoples Sr. attack, Mary Kate O’Sullivan, Jr. midfield, Emmy Molder, Jr. midfield, Megan Gander, Jr. defense. Barron Collier should be one of the teams challenging for the District, but will have to see how the young players fill key positions.

Golden Gate is developing their program and will field a solid group of young players.

Gulf Coast is the largest high school in this district. Coach Garrsion, who played for UMass, runs a strong, aggressive defensive. Gulf Coast has a great combination of young players mixed with a group of senior leaders. Gulf Coast has a big spot to fill with the loss of their goal keeper. Overall they are a fast and physical team. Team leaders: Taylor Loyd, Sr. midfield, Tori Roppo, Sr. defense, Francesca Worthington Sr. defense, Katie Desorcy, Jr. midfield, Delany Semancik So. attack, Kali Heller-Spencer So. midfield, Breanna Scott, So. midfield, Alex Dedio, So. defense, Rachel Zimmerman, So. defense. Look for Gulf Coast to challenge for the District title.

Immokalee has a great group of athletes. Coach Woods has encouraged his soccer players to play lacrosse in the spring and it has really paid off. He will have to fill the shoes of “all-area” player Rechelle Daguerre. Leading Immokalee this season will be senior Elizabeth Castaneda. Coach Woods has 50 girls in his program and looks to develop a power house program.

Lely is a young team and is led by sophomore Clara Bissell.

Naples has the strongest senior class and looks to compete for the District title. Coach Adiutori is coming off a 9-3 season and has a very strong team. Team leaders: Taylor Dens, Sr. midfield, Nicole Vandal, Sr. midfield, Carly Rouser, Sr. attack, Sarah Connolly, Sr. midfield, Cattie Enright, Sr. midfield, Amanda Walker, Sr. defense, Jonah Tracy, Jr. attack, Maria Umami, Jr. midfield, Rachel Cuero, Jr., midfield, Lauren Scherer, Fr. defense. Look for Naples to be the team to beat in District 11.

Palmetto Ridge – Coach Kim Ellis has a young team with strong group of returning players on her team. Leading the way is junior Allison Maxi and sophomore Kyle Seville. Palmetto Ridge has a great group of athletes and is an up and coming program.
