Gulliver Prep Takes District 31 – 18-8 Over Coral Reef

Written by Lee Roggenburg on . Posted in .
Gulliver(14-3) came out quick and fast putting up 5 unanswered goals in the 1st quarter until slowing down in the second. A hard playing Coral Reef (10-6) team started stepping up their ground ball game and intensity to keep the Raiders at Bay. The second quarter was a lot of the same, with Gulliver rushing the offense and then Coral Reef answering back. Penalty trouble and losing the ground ball battle, gave the hard working Coral Reef team the ability to keep it close with pure grit. The half ended with Gulliver up 10-5. The Raiders came out in the 2nd half minimizing their mistakes, slowing the tempo down and playing more disciplined defense. The injury depleted GP team will have along rest now until they have to get back onto the playing field. Hopefully they can shore up their mistakes and get back to full strength in time to make a run. Leading the Raiders was Raffy Reyes (8th grader) in the cage. (8 saves), strong play by Trevor Pelletier 6g, 2a(Manhattan College), Cj Hassan 4g,1a 7/12 FO%(Colby College), and defenseman Dominic Benitez 11GBs (Columbia). Coral reef’s top performers- pole Matt Boldt 2 goals, Gabe Telleria 1g, Josh Duperly 2 g, and Greg Mendoza 2gs. Gulliver will move on to face the district 32 winner and be watching what happens up north between Belen and Columbus.
