On Tuesday the Hagerty Huskies traveled to Winter Park to face the Wildcats with a 7-year monkey on their back – getting a win against one of the elite teams in the state. Out of the gate, Hagerty scored the opening goal. Winter Park fought back to win the first quarter 3-2. By half time Winter Park had pulled ahead by 2 with another 3-2 goal performance in the 2nd quarter. Hagerty then went on a 5-1 run in the 3rd quarter despite being man down for 4 minutes of the quarter. Not to be outdone, Winter Park tied the game at 10 with a 3-1 run in the 4th quarter. Hagerty scored the go ahead goal with 3 minutes left and tightened up on defense to get the win. Goalie play by the Huskies was key to the win with Jacob Calloway and Ryan McMahon having 8 saves each during one half of play each. Winter Park Goalie Reid Den Beste had 12 saves. On the down side, there were 24 penalties among the two teams. Coach Mark Ayad was ecstatic about the win: “I started the program 7 years ago and we have been trying to get our first win against an elite team. The monkey is finally off our back and running around Winter Park looking for someone else to hop on to. Couldn’t be more proud of the boys for responding after such a tough loss on Friday night to Timber Creek.
