(Apr. 2nd) – The host Highlanders (12-1; 5-0 district) won the second annual O’Town Showdown on Saturday afternoon with a 12-11 nail biting victory over the Wolves of Timber Creek. The game was closely contested the entire way with neither team enjoying more than a two goal advantage. LHP was led by senior midfielder Morgan Clark who had the offensive game of his career with five goals. Lake Highland dominated the early play and took a 2-0 lead at the 8:19 mark of the first period on goals by Clark and senior attackman Will Rotatori and before Timber Creek had their first offensive possession. The Wolves settled down and used slick interior passing to score four unanswered goals to take their largest lead of the contest at 4-2 with 8:43 remaining in the second period. Clark then scored two more of his goals to knot the score at 4 all before Timber Creek added one more tally to take a 5-4 lead at the half. The Highlanders outshot the Wolves throughout the day but Andrew McCormick had a phenomenal day in the net for the Wolves. The third quarter was back and forth with Timber Creek scoring two EMO goals and LHP scoring five times including two more from Clark. The Wolves scored at the 5:53 mark of the final period on yet another man-up situation to take a 10-9 lead before three straight Lake Highland goals by senior Attackman Billy Ziegler, Rotatori and the eventual game winner by senior midfielder Nick St. Laurent at the 4:04 mark. Despite giving up a Timber Creek goal with 19 seconds remaining, the Highlanders controlled the ball and the clock over the final minutes of the game to preserve the win and the chance to hoist the championship trophy. Lake Highland next plays Northview GA on Thursday evening where the 2011 seniors will be honored before the game.
