FloridaLacrosseNews.com Exclusive! – 2013 is the Last Season for the Deep South Conference-Sunshine State Athletic Conference Adding Men’s Lacrosse in 2014

We have received confirmation from Commissioner Jay Jones of the Sunshine State Athletic Conference that the conference is set to approve in late November the addition of men’s lacrosse.  There are currently five Sunshine State Athletic Conference schools which have men’s lacrosse teams, the minimum for adding a sport. The addition of men’s lacrosse, if approved by the member President’s in late November, would be effective for the 2014 season. Currently, all five of our Florida NCAA Dll lacrosse teams play in the Deep South Conference.  The rest of the Deep South Conference teams are member schools of the South Atlantic Athletic Conference which sources tell us will also be adding Men’s Lacrosse as a sport in 2014.  This will effectively be the end the Deep South Conference. NCAA lacrosse continues to grow in the sunshine state.  Lynn University in Boca has posted a job opening for a Head Lacrosse coach on the NCAA website and is reported to be planning to add men’s lacrosse.  Sources tell us that they will begin play in the Sunshine State Conference in 2014.  We have yet to get confirmation on that from the Lynn University Athletic Department.  We will update this post as soon as we do. The Sunshine State Conference is recognized throughout the country as one of the top NCAA Dll sports conferences.  The SSC has won 78 NCAA Dll National Championships.  With the expansion of the NCAA Dll National Championship Tournament to eight teams from four, the chances are very good that the winner of the SSC championship will advance to the national championship tournament.  Could one of our Florida teams bring a national lacrosse championship home to the Sunshine State?
